Mission Statement
The Southern Utah University Investment Group is designed to provide students with a career vision, analytical tools and personal investment experience to best position them for a career in investment management.

Key Components of the SUU Investment Group

Actively Manage a Portfolio
One of the principal priorities of this group is to manage the D.A. Davidson fund. Meetings will be held to discuss the investment strategy and how to manage the fund.

Students meet in the Steven Harrop Investment Lab in the early morning hours to determine which stocks to pick this year. Donuts are essential to make good decisions. The discussion this morning was to invest in Alibaba (BABA) or Amazon (AMZN) and between Micron (MU) and Microchip Technology (MCHP).

Board Meetings
These meetings will be held once per month and will provide an opportunity for students to interact with and make presentations to the Advisory Board

Professional Seminar
Multiple times each semester, professionals in investment and finance careers will be invited to campus. This seminar will consist of a presentation, meetings with individual students and lunch.

CFA Research Challenge

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Students work in teams to research and analyze a publicly traded company — sometimes even meeting face-to-face with company management. Each team writes a research report on their assigned company with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation and may be asked to present and defend their analysis to a panel of industry professionals. The Challenge is during the months of November and December. (CFA Research Challenge Website

Career Exploration Trips
Once a year, a career exploration trip will be planned. The goal is to meet with individuals and companies in order to network, learn more about internships and careers, and market themselves to potential employers.
Past years we have visited New York City, Seattle, Portland, and Salt Lake City. We will strategically plan where and with whom we will visit.
