Dr. Hu is a full professor of Hospitality Management. He received his Ph.D. in Hotel and Restaurant Administration from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater in 2005. He was hired by Southern Utah University in August 2014 as a tenured Associate Professor. Prior to join the Hospitality Management program at SUU, Dr. Hu served as a tenured Associate Professor and an Assistant Professor at State University of New York-Oneonta (SUNY) for 9 years.

 

Dr. Hu’s first administrative position in academia was as Department Chair of the Department of Foodservice and Beverage Management in the Dah-Chin Business & Industrial Vocational School. His responsibilities included administrative duties regarding to teaching, service and program assessment. In the meantime, Dr. Hu was appointed by the President of the Dah-Chin Institute as Founding Director of the Center of Professional Culinary Training. His primary achievements in this position included developing five culinary programs, obtaining accreditations for the programs, acquiring government grants and collaborating with four government agencies to transform the Culinary Center into a national testing center.

 

Dr. Hu was working in the foodservice industry for more than 11 years. His last industry position was the General Manager of a catering center. This position required him to oversee the operations of the whole catering center, maintain the organizational goals and implement strategic plans to the organization. Dr. Hu’s many years of experience and continued involvement in the hospitality industry have proved to be not only greatly beneficial to his leadership and interpersonal skills, but also helpful to him in pursuing excellence in teaching and research.
